Property Division
People often accumulate assets during a marriage such as a house, bank accounts, retirement accounts and personal property. South Carolina law provides that marital assets be equitably divided. Several factors go into determining how assets will be divided including the length of the marriage, marital fault or misconduct, contributions by each party, health of each spouse, need for training and education, non-marital property of each spouse and tax consequences of apportionment.
