Robert M.P. Masella founded the Masella Law Firm, P.A., in 1998. After completing his studies at Winthrop College in 1985, where he was an All-American Soccer Player, Mr. Masella entered the business field and became one of the nation’s top producers for a Fortune 100 Company. In 1992, he enrolled in the University of South Carolina School of Law, concentrating his studies on personal injury, workers’ compensation, and substantive and procedural criminal law. Continuing his focus on these areas of the law in his professional career, he has developed his skills in litigation to protect the rights of those who have been injured and accused of crimes. Some of the highlights of his law school career include his relationship with South Carolina’s premier probate specialist, Professor S. Alan Medlin, for whom Mr. Masella served as research assistant, and as a member of and contributor to the South Carolina Environmental Law Journal for whom he wrote and published: The Reorganization of South Carolina Environmental Agencies. (1995) Finally, Mr. Masella served the University of South Carolina Law School as its Student Bar President during the school year 1994-1995.
Prior to graduating from the University of South Carolina School of Law, Mr. Masella successfully completed the Georgia Bar Exam and became a member of the Georgia Bar. After graduation, he additionally passed the South Carolina Bar Exam and became a member of the South Carolina Bar.
Mr. Masella served as law clerk to the Honorable (now Chief Judge) Kaye G. Hearn of the South Carolina Court of Appeals from August of 1995 through September 1996. Following his clerkship, he joined the Richland County Solicitor’s Office and prosecuted matters including felonies and misdemeanors involving violent, drug, sex, and property crimes. After prosecuting crimes for more than two years, Mr. Masella established the Masella Law Firm, P.A., in Columbia. The firm now has a second office in Rock Hill. Mr. Masella sat as a Municipal Court Judge for the City of Columbia between August of 2000 through August 2005. While a trial court judge, Mr. Masella presided over criminal court cases where he heard evidence, issued rulings and sentenced the guilty, he also presided over preliminary hearings and bonds settings.
Mr. Masella served as the Chairperson of the South Carolina Bar’s Continuing Education Seminar Committee, the South Carolina Bar’s Publications Committee, and the South Carolina Bar’s Lawyer Referral Service. Mr. Masella is now a Member of the South Carolina Bar Association’s CLE Executive Committee. He has also presented numerous topics to the attorney’s in the South Carolina Bar regarding criminal issues. In 2005 Mr. Masella and Ms. West organized and moderated the 2005 Year in Review CLE. Mr. Masella serves the South Carolina Supreme Court as an investigative attorney for the Office of Disciplinary Counsel.
